Magnesium Citrate Voluntary Recall

On July 25, 2022, Vi-Jon, LLC issued a consumer-level recall of Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution. This includes all lots of Lemon, Cherry and Grape flavor of Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution, 10 FL OZ (296 mL) within expiry. This recall was issued after Vi-Jon, LLCs third party microbial testing identified the presence of Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens.

This may represent a potential health hazard or safety risk to patients using product affected by this recall.

According to Vi-Jon, immunocompromised patients who consume this product may be at increased risk for invasive infections caused by Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens that could lead to serious, life-threatening adverse health consequences. Vi-Jon, LLC has advised that, to date, it is aware of 3 (three) reports of serious adverse reactions potentially related to this recall. Vi-Jon has further advised that it is in the process of investigating these reports.

The product is used for relief of occasional constipation (irregularity) and generally produces bowel movement in ½ to 6 hours. The product is packaged in a 10 oz clear round plastic bottle.

Vi-Jon, LLC advises all consumers that have this recalled product to stop using and return any remaining product.

CVS Caremark Response: Because of this action, contacting patients and prescribers to advise them of this recall. We are encouraging patients who are taking Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution manufactured by Vi-Jon to contact their prescriber.
